If 90 students auditioned for the school musical, how many were accepted?
1) 2/3 of the boys and 1/3 of the girls who auditioned were accepted.
2) 26 of the boys who were auditioned were accepted.
Correct answer is C

Hi Ron,
in this question, I want to start from statement 2. Here, 26 students were accepted. Explanation says that B is not the correct answer because we don't know how many girls are there. But, my question is: The question stem did not say that the accepted students are the combination of both boys and girls. In DS, when we start from statement 1, we normally don't care statement 2 and vice-verca. So, why should we care about girls in the statement 2.
Here, the correct answer is C; Option C discussed both the total number of BOYS and GIRLS. But, another question here: if someone says that there are another gender or other sorts of people in THESE 90 people. So, in this question regard HOW the correct answer is C, Shouldn't it be E?
Thank you Ron.

...because girls exist.

there are just boys and girls, because that's how the world works.
there are NEVER any "trick questions" on this exam, EVER.
if you think of a "tricky" interpretation of the words, IGNORE IT.
if you think of an interpretation that defies common sense, IGNORE IT.
if you think of an interpretation that defies the way the real world works, IGNORE IT.
