BIO

Pedro is driven by wanderlust, learning and improvement. He has lived in India, Indonesia, South Africa, South Korea, Guatemala and several cities in the US (Boston, NYC, NOLA, Chicago, SF and now DC). While Pedro formally studied engineering at MIT and economics and statistics at Columbia, he maintains that much of his learning has come from, to quote one of his favorite movies, Empire of The Sun, the University of Life.

Pedro first started teaching with Manhattan Prep in 2006 in NYC and rejoined the family in Washington DC after having lived abroad for several years. While moving around and wearing different professional hats, one of the constants in Pedro’s life has been teaching. Among his experiences, Pedro has trained adult immigrants in job skills in SF, tutored and mentored impoverished kids in Guatemala, prepared kids for the SAT in Seoul, taught math to elementary and middle school kids in Zimbabwe and has helped hundreds of students on the GMAT in NYC and now DC.

Pedro began working in technology investment banking before transitioning to international development, where he conducted research with MIT’s Poverty Action Lab before joining the World Bank. Though he suspects he will return to development work, he is currently working on starting his own business.

When not working, Pedro enjoys travel, photography, riding motorcycles, and watching movies.
