4th manhattan sc page 160 idiom 'more'

Right

MORE AND MORE we have observed violent robberies on weekends.

INCREASINGLY we have observed violent robberies on weekends.

Suspect

we observed 10% MORE robberies last month.

In the right version, why put 'more and more' and 'increasingly' at the front of the sentences. Is the 'more and more' adjective phrase modified 'violent robberies' or adverb phrase modified 'observed'. What's the function of 'increasingly' in the second sentence. Modify the working verb?

What's the ambiguous in the suspect version? Does not 'more' function as adjective to modify 'robberies' here?

Thx

both of these are modifying the verb. it's not a matter of why we put those words at the beginning; remember, your job is not to ask what the best way to express something is but rather to ask whether something is wrong. these are not wrong, so that's all you should worry about. there is nothing wrong with the "suspect" example; remember "suspect" does not mean wrong. it just means that a similar sentence could easily become wrong if not written perfectly..
