550 - 580 - 600: How can I improve my quant score?

by CBrenz Tue Aug 30, 2011 3:43 pm

I completed the in class MnhttnGmat prep class last month and took the gmat for the 3rd time last week and scored a 600 (34,38). I self studied the first 2 times I took the exam and score 550 (31,34) & 580 (33,37).

I am looking for any advice on how to hone my studying so that I can bring my quant scores up to a level that is close to my verbal scores. I spent the majority of my study time on quant subjects leading up to my last exam and was dissapointed that all of the work I put in only led to a 1 point increase in Quant. I have completed all of the manhattan gmat prep books and the majority of the OG problems. I have taken 3 CAT exams and my quant has ranged from 65% -71% so I am not sure why I am having so much trouble on the gmat itself.

If your confident that you know the OG materials then you should really go back to your CAT exam generate a report for your last three exam, examine your weakness in different areas, and check your time management. What really helped me was ignoring 700+ quant questions that I couldn't figured out in 1 min and focusing on getting <600 questions correct with the time saved. Knowing how to take the test effectively is half of the battle and the other half is knowing the material =] keep fighting
