A cake that is tasty will not last..

Sentence correction strategy guide - 4th edition (4.2), page 26,

Question 13: A cake that is tasty will not last for a long amount of time in a room full of children who are hungry.

Directions: Rewrite the sentence more concisely.

Answer: A tasty cake will not last long in a room full of hungry children.

I understand the correct concise answer.

My doubt is
Would 'last for long' be grammatically correct here?

The term is extensively used in everyday English.

This would have come up if a multiple choice question had no 'last long' option, and was designed for grammar issues.

I see nothing wrong with your sentence, but adding the preposition causes it to be less concise than the suggested sentence.

Hi,

I have doubt regarding "Hungry children" . For example as per gmat "timber wolf density, phosphate amount, food allergy" etc are not correct usage. Is hungry children correct usuage ?

Ammu

Yes, it's fine. Think of this sentence:
"The crying children ruined the concert."

In both cases, "hungry" and "crying" are just noun modifiers describing "children".
