a research published its finding

by manhhiep2509 Sat Dec 28, 2013 12:10 pm

Hello.

The sentence is the choice A and E and in question 39 of review verbal 2. I modified it so that I did not violate the rule of forum.

A. Yesterday, a research published its finding that within the past few years many lawyers had chosen to retire sooner than usual.
E. Yesterday, a research published its finding that within the past few years many lawyers have chosen to retire sooner than usual.

The OG says that "for action that started in the past and continues into the present, it is correct to use the present perfect tense".

If I have to choose between present perfect and past perfect, of course I will choose present perfect because I do not find any sequence actions to justify the past perfect tense.
However, I have no idea how we know that the practice of the lawyers has continued today so that the use of present perfect is justified.

I have thought that "Within the past few years" indicates that the practice of the lawyer mentioned happened in specific timeframe. That means the practice ended.

So, what indicates the practice persists at least until today?

Thank you.

"Within the past few years" represents a timeframe that continues into the present.
