According to one expert, the cause of genetic irregularities in many breeds of dog is not so much that the dogs are being bred for looks or to meet other narrow criteria as that the breeds have relatively few founding members.
A) Same
B) the cause of genetic irregularities in many breeds or dog is not as much their being bred for looks or meeting other narrow criteria as much
C) it is not so much the cause of genetic irregularities in many breeds of dog that they are being bred for looks or meeting other narrow criteria as much
D) it is not so much that the cause of genetic irregularities in many breeds of dog is their being bred for looks or meeting other narrow criteria so much
E) it is not so much the cause of genetic irregularities in many breeds of dog to be bred for looks or to meet other narrow criteria
Clearly C, D, and E are all out. Each sound awkward starting the phrase with IT ....
So it's down to A and B... I chose B which is wrong. Is A correct because of the idiom So X THAT...in this case SO MUCH THAT?
I chose B because I felt this was not parallel...that the dogs are being bred for looks to to meet other narrow criteria....which is in choice A. And in choice B being bred for looks or meeting other narrow criteria is parallel so I went with B....What's wrong with this reasoning?
