by rte.sushil Wed Nov 21, 2012 8:57 am

I want to understand where is the most suitable placement for adverbs

e.g.
I really want to go
i want to go really
i want really to go

These all seemed same to me.If so, which is the most suitable placement for adverbs

I think option 1 is right. TO GO is infinitive and working as noun. Adverbs can't be used to modify nouns. Only in option 1, REALLY is modifying 'want' (verb).
I Can. I Will.

The GMAT will not test you on this, so there is no point worrying about it..

ok, so in general spoken/written English all above three versions are correct, right?
(Actually, preparing for GMAT makes us not to use grammatically wrong sentences in our day to day life:))

no, neither Willy nor i said anything of the sort. i think you would only see the first one used in normal everyday English. please keep in mind that studying GMAT grammar is not sufficient to help you speak correctly in real life, because as i've pointed out here there are things the GMAT doesn't test on.. :)

an Adverb rule is to put in front of the finite verbs, follow non-finite verbs. So if you want to emphasize the verb "want", it will be shown in front of "want". But if you want to emphasize "go", just put it before "go". As these two verbs are finite verb.

In this case you wouldn't want to split the infinitive by putting "really" in front of "go". But anyway, Tim's point is good--the GMAT does not test this so not necessary to worry about it!
