Algebra Guide question 9 page 133

by SherryK835 Tue Dec 08, 2015 1:26 pm

If (AB/7) > (1/14), and A=B, which of the following must be greater than 1?

(A) A+B
(B) 1-A
(C) 2(A^2)
(D) (A^2) - (1/2)
(E) A

The book says (C), which is correct. But isn't (A) also correct?

if A=B, then (A^2)= (1/2), and A=1/(SQRT 2)
But then A+B = 2/(SQRT 2), which is greater than one, so A+B must be greater than 1

I just wanted to check if this reasoning is correct.
