All of the cake was gone

by ParthJ26 Thu Feb 22, 2018 1:25 pm

FoV, 6th Edition,

Circle pronoun or possessive adjective and make arrow pointing to its antecedents.

1. Pg 32 Drill 2.3.

All of the cake was gone before we had a chance to try it.

"All" is circled but no arrow is drawn to "cake".

2. Pg 33, Drill 2.4

Each of the dogs is masterfully trained to detect when someone is about to suffer an epileptic seizure.

"Each" is circled and arrow is drawn to "dogs".

I did not understand why there is a difference in treatment in the above mentioned sentences.

Thanks in advance.

My copy has an arrow drawn to 'cake', which is indeed the antecedent of 'it'. Apologies if you have a misprint that doesn't have the arrow. There should also be an arrow showing that 'cake' is the antecedent of 'all'. That would make it consistent with the dogs example.
