I believe "his" has an ambiguous antecedant. Since Moliere's satirical play Tartuffe, here Moliere's is possesive.

the verb split is not really relevant here. the biggest thing to pay attention to is the pronouns, and all four incorrect answers use pronouns incorrectly. pronouns are low-hanging fruit, so you should go for them first. when you see a pronoun, try to identify the antecedent, and if there isn't an appropriate antecedent you can eliminate that answer choice..
