Among the emotions on display in the negotiating room were anger for repeatedly raising the issue over and over again and preventing the raw wounds from earlier battles from ever beginning to heal.
(A) were anger for repeatedly raising the issue over and over again and preventing the raw wounds from earlier battles from ever beginning to heal
(B) was anger for repeatedly raising the issue and preventing the raw wounds from earlier battles from ever beginning to heal
(C) were anger over repeatedly raising the issue and preventing the raw wounds from earlier battles to begin healing
(D) was anger about the issue, which was raised over and over, and preventing the wounds from earlier battles, still raw, to begin healing
(E) were anger about the issue, which was raised repeatedly, and preventing the raw wounds from earlier battles to begin to heal

O.A - B

This is inverted construction
Among the emotions on display in the negotiating room were anger for repeatedly raising the issue and preventing the raw wounds from earlier battles from ever beginning to heal .
The colored portion is subject; I right the sentence in SVO

anger (for repeatedly raising the issue and preventing the raw wounds from earlier battles from ever beginning to heal) was among the emotions on display in the negotiating room.
So was will come and Answer is B.

Further -"over and over again" is redundant.

Instructors- is this the right explanation for B?

One more expanation: the author has tried to confuse by using "were", and then using "anger". Since only one emotion anger is used, "was", in place of "were", has to be used. And anger was expressed for two things .....same issue and.... raw wounds...

this is accurate, yes.

* if you say "repeatedly", then you can't also say "over and over again".
however, you could say "over and over again"; the only reason this is wrong is because it's paired with "repeatedly".

* you know this must be a backward construction, because nothing before the verb is eligible to be a subject. (the entire construction preceding the subject is a prepositional phrase - that can't be the subject)
