anything else wrong with option E?

by sudaif Fri Jul 23, 2010 8:33 am

Is there anything else wrong with option E besides what the MGMAT explanation says? Specifically, is it okay to say "...previously costly..."

The invention of the cotton gin, being one of the most significant developments of the nineteenth century, had turned cotton cloth into an affordable commodity; it was costly before that.

E) being one of the most significant developments of the nineteenth century, turned cotton cloth from a previously costly commodity to an affordable one

MGMAt Explanation:
(E) The word "being" is unnecessary in the opening modifier.

Yes. Also, the pronoun does not clearly point to the cotton cloth that it logically needs to refer to..
