"as with" means "in a situation similar to that of..." and will be followed either by a noun or a subject-verb pair.
"as did" is different in that the "did" will connect back to some previously used verb.
in either case, the word "as" signals a comparison. however, the second case is more restrictive, as the "did" must properly agree with the preceeding verb.
examples:
as with flowers, plants grown for food must be given proper nutrients and water.
the professor watched football on saturday, as did her students.
