As did vs as with

by M3 Tue Dec 30, 2008 12:24 pm

Could someone explain in what context you would use As did and in what context you would use as with?

Thanks

"as with" means "in a situation similar to that of..." and will be followed either by a noun or a subject-verb pair.

"as did" is different in that the "did" will connect back to some previously used verb.

in either case, the word "as" signals a comparison. however, the second case is more restrictive, as the "did" must properly agree with the preceeding verb.

examples:

as with flowers, plants grown for food must be given proper nutrients and water.

the professor watched football on saturday, as did her students.
