"at speeds much higher than are"

by AmandaS355 Mon Sep 22, 2014 12:38 am

According to analysts, an alliance between three major personal computer companies and most of the nation’s largest local telephone companies would enable customers to receive internet data over regular telephone lines with speeds much higher than is currently possible.

A. with speeds much higher than is
B. with speeds that are much higher than are
C. at much higher speeds as are
D. at much higher speeds than that
E. at speeds much higher than are

the answer is E.

A,B "with speeds" is incorrect
C "higher as" is incorrect, it should be "higher than"

BUT D & E really confuse me!!!!
is D wrong just because "that" should be changed into "those"??

and E what is the omitted element?

plz!!help me with it!! thank you sooo much!! ;)))

Per the forum rules, please cite the original source of the problem.

If the source is GMAT Prep (FREE software only) or MGMAT materials, this is the wrong folder. In that case, please do the following:

* Search the forum to see whether there are any existing threads on the problem.
(For GMAT Prep problems in particular, it's almost certain that there will already be a thread.)

* If there's an existing thread, DO NOT post a new thread. Read the existing thread, and then post any remaining questions on the existing thread.

* If you don't find any existing threads, please start a new thread in the appropriate folder.

* Finally, please read the rules for how to write the title of the thread. (I.e., not like this one.)

Thanks.
