Collective nouns

by das.sk.82 Sat Oct 01, 2011 6:22 am

Hi,

I came across this sentence in Manhattan GMAT SC guide 4th Ed.
The problem belongs to Ch 3 Problem Set.

Tired of practicing, the orchestra decide to walk out on their astonished conductor.

Explantion provided:
Correction: Tired of practicing, the orchestra decides to walk out on their astonished conductor.

I want to understand if we replace decides with a past participle for example 'decided' would we be wrong?

"decided" is the best word to use here..
