Although Napoleon's army entered Russia with far more supplies than it had in its previous campaigns, it had provisions for only twenty-four days.

(A) it had in its previous campaigns
(B) its previous campaigns had had
(C) It had for any previous campaign

I need more author information than "ETS series test question" - ETS used to write the GMAT. ETS also writes other tests. If this is a GMAT ETS question, we do not have copyright permission to host it. If it is from some other test, we can probably host it - but I need to know before I can reply to the question itself.

i'm confused: how can we compare "supplies" with "for any previous campaign?

Although Napoleon's army entered Russia with far more supplies than it had in its previous campaigns, it had provisions for only twenty-four days.

(A) it had in its previous campaigns
(B) its previous campaigns had had
(C) It had for any previous campaign
(D) In its previous campaigns
(E) for any previous campaign

Ok, this is my take on this question. I believe the answer is A . Please let me know whether I am wrong.

The sentence is trying to compare the supplies Napoleon's army had in previous campaign to the one it has in this campaign.

A) here supplies is understood. the supplies it had. so beet option
B) here supplies are compared to previous campaign. wrong comparison
C) wrong preposition. it had in its previous campaign
D) subject after than is missing
E) wrong preposition for. also what is than referring to?

My take - I think "had" is wrong. It should be "did" to make things parallel because of "entered" in the parallel structure!

E is wrong as noted above left with D.

IS D THE CORRECT ANS!

Please correct us!

although this question is very clearly taken from the OG, I won't go through and delete every instance of it in this thread, because it is modified enough not to be an OG problem anymore. [if the GMAT decides otherwise and asks us to remove it in the future, we'll have to do that though.] that being the case, we also won't provide any help with it because it is no longer a legitimate question. please do not try to make your own SC questions, as they will often contain flaws that make them inappropriate for study. instead, focus on actual problems instead of making up hypothetical variations..
