Contacting Admissions

Is it appropriate to send admissions officers updates on events like 1) visiting the school 2) speaking with alumni 3) other achievements

Would contact be better received in an email or call?

From what I've heard any contact with admissions is added to file so wouldn't do so demonstrate significant interest? or would it annoy and thus hurt chances?

That kind of info is stuff that should be incorporated into your essays. Don't bug them with updates like this because it will annoy them -- they are incredibly busy during the application season.
