CR from mgmat 2

by ayushbiy Mon May 06, 2013 10:45 am

Hi Staff,

Please see the following CR:

Advertisement: Avian Oculars are the newest in binocular technology for the professional bird watcher. For a price comparable to that of traditional binoculars, Avian Oculars are specially designed with the features demanded by birding enthusiasts: they are lightweight, compact and extremely durable. So, use Avian Oculars on your next bird watching excursion, and see some of the world’s rarest species in all of their beautiful plumage.

Which of the following is an assumption on which the author of the advertisement relies?

1) Avian Oculars weigh less than traditional binoculars.
2) Avian Oculars should be used only by bird watchers.
3) The reader will travel through the habitats of rare species during his or her next bird watching trip.
4) Avian Oculars are similar in cost to traditional binoculars.
5) Birding enthusiasts often determine the specifications of new products.

Please let me know what is your approach for this question.

In this question, my problem is in general with the options. The para ends with

"So, use Avian Oculars on your next bird watching excursion, and see some of the world’s rarest species in all of their beautiful plumage." - This has become the assumption. There are many paras that end this way..example " for promoting a romantic movie we end up saying " go fall in love "...does that mean falling in love is an assumption ?

I can get the answer right by POE but not by the right reason to mark this answer.

I'm not sure I follow your logic here, ayushbiy. Here's the conclusion in a nutshell:

If you use Avian Oculars on your next trip, you will see exotic birds.

In order for this conclusion to stand, you have to be able to see exotic birds. In general, anytime you have an if...then statement, it is assumed that then is possible: If you watch this movie, you will fall in love (can I fall in love?). If you use our product, you will taste the difference (can I taste?).
