Had a question been...

I would advise you not to do this activity. It is counter-productive in every aspect. I wasted time to understand why it is so but trust me refrain yourself from doing this activity.

C. A deer tick feeds only once while in the larval stage.
How does it make a difference if larva feeds only once or more than once? This option really sounds absurd without the explanation you gave :(

Although Dan provided very good response, to make you understand lets do this question in new way. consider that in a bag, there are 2 balls red and blue. what do you think is probablity of blindly chooseing a red ball(=1/2). lets add 99 blue balls to bag. now what is the probablity of blindly choosing a red ball (1/100). Relate this example to current situation and you will get the concept behind this problem.

situation before adding other species was similar the case in which probability was high and situation after adding other species is similar to case in which probability in very low.

dynamicOverlord Wrote:There is a version of this problem with more difficult answer choices:

A. Whether populations of the other species on which deer tick larvae feed are found only in areas also inhabited by white footed mice.

B. Whether the size of the deer population is currently limited by the availability of animals for ticks "˜s larval stage to feed on

C. Whether the infected deer population could be controlled by increasing the number of animals that prey on white footed mice.

D.Whether deer ticks that were not infected as larvae can become infected as adults by feeding on deer on which infected deer ticks have fed.

E. Whether the other species on which deer tick larvae feed harbor any other bacteria that ticks transmits to humans.

Anyone have thoughts as to the right answer? I picked D, but my answer was incorrect. I'm having difficulty understanding why.

Choice B talks about the availability of "animals"that the tick feed on. If I answer yes to Choice B, the existing tick population will eat more "animals", but not necessarily pointing out whether it'll eat animals containing bacteria or not?

Thank you!
