CR silly question

by priyankur.saha Fri May 15, 2009 7:14 am

What is the basic difference between "inference" and must be true" question? Until now I had idea that both are same but, after I went though CAT questions' classification, I have found that both are subtly different.
As per my understanding, I feel that inference is paraphrasing of stem and Must Be True is logical consequence of stem. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I would really like to hear actual difference between them. Thank you.

I am going to move this thread to the General Verbal questions folder, as I think it fits best there.

On any CR question that presents only facts and asks you to select a conclusion, the proper translation is "Which of the following can you PROVE, using the information above?"

These questions may be worded various ways (emphasis mine):

Which of the following conclusions can most properly be drawn from the information above?

Which of the following can properly be inferred regarding X from the statement(s) above?

Which of the following must be true on the basis of the statements in the document above?

As you can see, the GMAT always specifies that you use the statements above, and only the statements above. Don't ever rely on outside information or assumptions about the statements.
