"bad" is an adjective and "badly" is an adverb. learn the difference between those and things should make perfect sense. also, learn your grammar rules in general rather than just relying on what sounds right, especially since in your case it appears that "sounds right" is actually leading you toward incorrect choices..

finally, please don't use resources that make up contrived problems to test things like adjectives versus adverbs; this is not something that the GMAT tests with any regularity. stick to MGMAT's books and official guide material if you want problems that will look more like what you will see on the actual exam..
