This is my first post in Manh..

Because of extreme cold the trees are in danger of dying/to die due to severe cold?

"are in danger" is always followed by "of" so sentence would be
Because of extreme cold the trees are in danger of dying due to severe cold?

"to" is infinitive form of verb and used for the purpose .. e.g Shweta wanted to crack the GMAT --> here wanted to crack signify the purpose..

verb + ing are form of gerund, present participle..and verb + ing act as noun
gerund is used as sunject, onject, sunject complement
walking is a good for helth

present particple is used as the adjective or used to decribe the previous clause/action of sentence

Shweta is determined to crack the GMAT, proving heself as a champ

proving(refer to action of "determined to crack the GMAT") is used refer to action of previous clause.

Hope this is ok

wait, what are the options? is the whole thing before the slash the first option, and the whole thing after the slash the second option?

if that's the case, then the first part (the part before the slash) is ok.

the second is wrong for two reasons. first, "in danger to die" is an incorrect idiom. second, this is a misuse of "due to".
click here for a fuller discussion of "due to".
