Divisibility and primes

by JulianD531 Sun Nov 16, 2014 7:34 pm

Hi, I am trying to solve this problem:

If x, y and z are integers, what is y – z?

(1) 100power(x) = 2power(y)5power(z)
(2) 10power(y) = 20power(x)5power(z+1)

This question is from a CAT exam. I got lost in the explanation where it says:

Thus we know that 2power(2x) = 2power(y), so 2x = y. We also know that 5power(2x) = 5power(z), so 2x = z.

Could you help me with that?

Thanks.

hi,
wrong folder for CAT exam problems. please re-post your query in the CAT folder.

also, when you do so, please use the "^" symbol for powers; that will make your posts much easier to understand.

thanks.
