EIV guide 3 4th edition page 176 problem 10 answer help

by tomslawsky Wed Feb 17, 2010 3:03 pm

this should e easy- im just not seeing how the answer is derived.

The problem is ((20th root of(sqrt 2))^10

I disected it this way:

Sqrt 2= 2^1/2

Threfore, the question = (((2^1/2)^1/20)^10)

and 1/2*1/20*10= 10/40= 1/4

therefore my answer is 2^1/4 = (fourth root of 2), and NOT the (second root of 2)

How bad did I muff this one up?

Thank you.

Never mind, I got it. The radical sign is only 20th root, not square root, too. These are the simple things that frustrate me- understand the concept, set up proper equation and screw up the arithmetic!

It's helpful to often take a second glance at the problem if you get stuck somewhere. The problems in the quant are often reading problems.
