elliptical construction

by liu1993918 Thu Mar 12, 2015 9:39 pm

After I did the 85th SC question of Verbal 2nd, I am confused about elliptical construction.

Examples:
Teachers are providing special training for 100 students as many as are enrolled in the whole class.

Dear instructors, can you tell me what is omitted in the above sentence, please?
Thanks in advance.

nothing is "omitted".
"omitted" implies that there are 'missing' words that one could 'put back' into the sentence. there are no extra words that can be inserted into this sentence.

just remember the construction in this sentence, and remember that it's not wrong. (also, be able to make the appropriate analogies to other constructions you might see, e.g., "100 more than are enrolled...").
