Evaluate my profile GMAT (Q:49 V:28) 640, 12+ yrs of experie

by zchampz Mon Feb 01, 2010 7:35 pm

Hi,

I would really appreciate if you can evaluate my profile and provide your invaluable feedback.

I appeared for GMAT today and scored paltry 640 :(
Quant: 49
Verbal: 28
(Though Verbal is my weak link, I never scored this low in any of the simulated GMAT exams. I was hoping to score around 700, but my low verbal score hit me hard!)

I have about 12 years of experience in the information technology field..
I guess my career progression is OK (Software Engineer, Senior Software Engineer, Project Manager, Product Manager)
    Filed half a dozen patents
    Co-founded a start-up a decade ago

I wanted to know whether I have any chance of getting in to any of the following business schools programs.
    1) UC Berkeley - Haas School of Business - Evening and Weekend program
    2) Stanford - Full Time
    3) Santa Clara University - Leavey school of business - Evening MBA

Do you suggest me to take GMAT again? o

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. In terms of your GMAT score, it is on the low end for the Stanford full time program. The Santa Clara evening program looks for a GMAT score within the range of 560-620, so you’re OK there. The median GMAT score for the UC Berkeley part time program is 700, with the middle 80% range of 631 to 759. You’re within the range, but on the lower end of it, and you’re considerably below the average GMAT score.

From your question, it seems as though you feel like you can improve your score. I think if you feel like you could raise your score significantly (30+ points) without too much, you should take it again. You’ll only be helping your candidacy with all schools.

Sincerely,

Akiba Smith-Francis
