Evaluation

by chrisb2222 Mon Jan 13, 2014 10:52 am

I took the GMAT a couple of months ago and scored a 670. My practice tests were in this range, so I was not shocked but was hoping for a 700+. My score was balanced, I received a 42q and 40v. I am strong at math, so I feel a retake could be to my benefit.

My background is in equity research, I have two years experience, so I will not apply for a couple of years. I attended the University of Notre Dame for undergrad in finance and graduated cum laude with a 3.62.

Is my profile strong enough already for the top schools or should I retake the GMAT given that I have some time? What schools would I be looking at with a 670?

Thanks

Chris

Hi there,

Thanks for your post. It's good that you are planning ahead. The 670 is respectable, but definitely well below average at top 5-10 schools, so, especially since you have the time, I would suggest giving it one more shot. And if you had scored a bit higher on practice tests, you may want to go for it sooner rather than later... on a different day you might do better, can just do a small amount of additional prep and keep up the ability level and get it done. Schools take the highest score, so taking it again is not a problem and is very common. Boosting your score could boost your admission chances at higher ranked schools, which also on average have grads with higher average salaries, so one way to look at it is an investment in your future!

Keep us posted and good luck!
