First attempt-690. Retake advise needed.

by chiragk222 Mon Jun 02, 2014 4:05 pm

Hello everyone!

I gave my GMAT today and scored 690 (Q-51,V-32)
Clearly my Verbal Section did not go well.

My last 4 MGMAT Verbal scores were 35,36,35,35 (taken in last 3 weeks)

Also, my GMATPrep Verbal Scores were 35 (1 week before gmat) & 39 (2 days before gmat)

GMAT Experience:
I took a good 4 minutes break but had a very poor start to the Verbal section of GMAT. My neighbouring candidate had started typing his essay and the irritating sound of keyboard was hampering my focus (even though I was using earplugs). I could not concentrate for nearly 10-15mins and could not build any sort of rhythm in the crucial early questions. I had checked the time twice and the situation was so bad that I was solving the 12th question when I should have been on the 20th. Somehow I managed to pull back and complete the section.

Please advise me on the course of action I should take now. I am targeting a score of 710 (Q-51,V-35/36).

Course of action-Choices:
1) I schedule my next attempt as soon as possible, and just carry on practising in between.
2) I take a good 2 weeks break, restart my preparation, build more on my Verbal knowledge and skills, and schedule next attempt after 4 weeks (2-3 hours daily studies) of preparation.
3) I do not give another attempt and Keep Calm!

Also, has anyone been distracted by those keyboard sounds before? Is this normal? How do I overcome this? Should I schedule my appointment as late in the day as possible to avoid it altogether?
