First Choice School Open House

by brian1981us Mon Jan 18, 2010 11:22 pm

My first choice school is holding an open house next month. I am extremely interested in attending however my recent practice GMAT scores are well below their average.

Pros: I know attending the open house will give me a good feel for the school and I could use this experience in my essays and interview.

Cons: My main concern is I never achieve a competitive GMAT score and this becomes a wasted trip, on top of that the school is 850 miles away and I will need to fly and get a hotel. Finally the school has another open house in November, but this will be past their second deadline and I intend on applying during the first or second deadline.

I am open to any suggestions or ideas since I am unsure if I should attend.

Thanks,
Brian

Schools do you require that you visit in order to be accepted. There are some schools, however, where it is important to visit to demonstrate that you have firsthand knowledge of the program (i.e. NYU Stern and Haas), as these programs ask very specific questions in their applications about your knowledge of the program. You can also consider getting to know the schools by emailing current students that are listed on the websites of student clubs that you are interested in. If the school is doing an info session in your town or a town near you next fall, you can attend those as well. Best of luck with figuring out your plans!
