FRACTIONS PROBLEM

by AlexandraO504 Sun Oct 27, 2019 12:40 pm

Q: A certain list consists of 21 different numbers. If n is in the list and n is 4 times the average (arithmetic mean) of the other 20 numbers in the list, then n is what fraction of the sum of the 21 numbers in the list?

Finding it really tricky to understand how to get to an answer here as the list of numbers are not consecutive. Is there someone that can help?

Thanks!

Please check the forum guidelines before posting. It would be great to have the full problem (including answers) posted, as well as the source and the correct answer.

It looks like this is the kind of problem that you could try translating into algebra. Alternatively, since it doesn't matter what n is, it would probably be easier to pick a Smart Number. For example, n could be 4.
