General Question Regarding OG SC's

by andrew.k.john Mon Jun 29, 2009 2:49 am

I have noticed a significant improvement in the number of OG questions I get right as I follow the curriculum set out in the Excel planner, however, I feel I am cheating myself to a certain extend. I get this feeling because I know what the questions will focus on before I even read them. If I am supposed to do 4 problems from the Concision section, I immediately search out the answer dealing with concision. This goes for any topic that is that particular week's focus. My fear is that this is setting the wrong expectation as I prepare for the test, as these topics are not synthesizing with each other. How can I best overcome this in my preperation?

As long as you know why you are eliminating the other four choices you are good. You will get used to type of errors that can pop up in the exam

I'm glad you bring up this question, and yes, it is a concern.

We have you study problems topic-by-topic because this is the best way to learn to recognize/master that particular area. However, it is VERY IMPORTANT that you also do random sets, particularly in the final weeks of your GMAT preparation. One possibility: use the OG12 for topic-based work, but use the supplements for random sets.

Also, if you are worried about your ability to truly master any problem, download the "Review Your Work" sheet from Student Center when you log into our website (paying students only). This sheet will outline a good review process for you.
