GMAT CAT

by alecm666 Sat Apr 18, 2015 7:55 am

1)
How many factors does 36^2 have? (CAT questions)
the answer is 25.
I want to know why we use primes to solve the problem? Because my math is really basic and dont know anything about primes' application expect its definition.

If let say the question is : how many factors does 22^2 have?
Should the answer be:
(11 * 2)^2
= 11, 11, 2 , 2
I can have zero to three 11; same for 2. So the answer is 3*3 = 9?

2)
Is d negative? (I have changed the -12 to +12)

1. e+d = +12
2. e-d < +12

Should the answer be C still?
=> my interpretation: Since d must be positive, and e can be positive or negative.

If I switch the "<" to ">", is it true that e must now be positive and d must be negative?

hello,
please read the forum rules before posting!

there are 3 things that need to be fixed here:

1/
one problem per thread.
if you're going to ask questions about two different problems, those questions need to be posted in two different threads.

2/
please transcribe the problems exactly as originally presented, including all answer choices. (you don't have to include answer choices for DS problems--since those choices are always the same--but you must include answer choices for any multiple-choice problem.)

3/
if you're starting a new thread, please title the thread according to the first few words of the problem. this will make the problem easier for future readers to find.

thank you.
