okay, first off, you definitely need to let go of the idea that a sentence can only have one verb, or else you'll get about a million percent of SC questions wrong on the GMAT. what Joe mentioned is not an exception to Ron's rule; we are just using a completely different type of word. an -ING word can act as a verb, but it can also be a modifier or even a noun depending on the context. as for the electromagnetic fields example you brought up, there are so many errors in it i don't even know what it's supposed to be saying. the bottom line is that it is incorrect though..
