Guessing in GMAT

by shottayaride Thu Mar 06, 2008 4:07 am

Stacey,

Somewhere in this forum you mentioned that one should aim to guess on approximately 7 questions in quant because of the adaptability of the exam. My question is, how many questions one should make a logical guess at in the verbal portion of the test. I took the MGMAT CAT and I find myself guessing on approximately 10 questions in quant and 5 question in verbal (mostly inference questions in the RC portion of the test).

Thanks in advance.

For most people, the number will be about 5-7 questions per section. That varies a bit, obviously, based upon individual strengths and weaknesses.

The key is to recognize fairly quickly when you should be guessing (ideally within 30 seconds, but at no more than 1 minute). Use the remaining time to make an educated guess (don't make a completely random guess unless you have to) but then move on at or before the 2-min mark (or 1.5 min mark for SC).
