How much does age matter for B-School applications?

by sdas0112 Thu Jul 29, 2010 10:41 am

Hello,
I had a question regarding how much 'Age' matters in an application work experience. I currently have 5 years of work experience in the infamous 'IT Industry'. I am hoping to go to B-School in 2013 and i will be 32 then. I have a Masters Degree in CS as well and graduated in 2008. So i am taking this time to build a nice profile as i am in an over represented group, figure out what exactly i want to do and raise money for the best admissions counseling.
Any insight will be appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi sdas0112

Thanks for writing in. Age is certainly a factor in admissions, as the schools want to bring in a class that has sufficient work experience, but is also at a stage of their career where an MBA is a logical next step. Most schools will have students around age 32 in their class, so your age is unlikely to be seen as a significant weakness. You will just want to clearly state in your essays why you feel another graduate degree is the right step for you, and how your future career plans would benefit from an MBA.

Best of luck,
