how to use economy and economics

example:we couldn't fly economy because all the tickets had been sold out.I don't know what this sentences means.
Can I replace economy by economics.

No, I dont think it would be right to do that. Nobody can fly Economics. The sentence means that the subject could not fly in Economy class as they could not get any tickets for it.
