I were vs I was

which is correct in below sentences?

I weren't sleeping at that time.
I wasn't sleeping at that time. - (this is correct as I know)

"weren't" is not used with first person singular (I). It is used with "you weren't," "we weren't," "they weren't."

Did you have more of a question to ask? I'm just curious b/c you ask which is correct but then label the correct one with "this is correct as I know" - so I'm not sure if I'm missing your real question.
