Idiom: ... and the like?

by JacobZ604 Sun Aug 16, 2015 11:31 am

In the Manhattan GMAT Sentence Correction subject book, the Idiom chapter has "and the like" as completely incorrect. What's the basis for this? Has it been wrong in previous GMAT questions? I've seen this idiom used in formal writing before (and would like to use it myself) so I'm curious why MGMAT considers it wrong.

Typically if our materials have designated something as an incorrect idiom it is because we have seen it designated incorrect by the GMAT or it conveys an incorrect meaning. As idioms are pretty much a black box, your primary objective should be just to memorize any incorrect idioms you can and keep them in mind for when you see them on the test.
