* idiomatic error or something else?

by harpreet1205 Thu Oct 03, 2013 8:11 am

Because of the enormous research and development expenditures required to survive in the electronics industry,
an industry marked by rapid innovation and volatile demand, such firms tend to be very large.

A. to survive
B. of firms to survive
C. for surviving
D. for survival
E. for firms' survival

I was stuck between B and E. The answer is B.

E is incorrect because the expression is unidiomatic or is there any other reason?

Hi --
Please read the forum rules before posting. First post at the top of the folder.

You can't post problems in this folder without giving the ORIGINAL SOURCE of the problem -- i.e., the company or author that first produced the problem. (Not another forum.)

If you don't know the original source, then i'm sorry, but you can't post the problem here.
This applies to MGMAT problems as well -- there are over three thousand problems in our database, so we won't recognize all of them from memory.

We will have to delete this thread within a week if the original source of the problem is not posted.
Thanks.
