Idioms

by Ineedhelp Thu Nov 15, 2012 5:04 pm

I'm reading the Ch. 9, on Idioms, from the sentence correction book. I'm finding it extremely dreadful, does anyone have any other resources or ideas that can help me understand most of these idioms?

Thanks

Carlos

here is the link and manhattan gmat staff reply
query-on-idioms-given-in-foundations-of-gmat-verbal-t16983.html

I strongly suggest to simplify these idioms.

Just concentrate on the correct Idioms and I hope that will help.

Or you can have a look at http://www.gmatprepnow.com/sites/all/th ... m_List.pdf

please keep in mind that success on the GMAT, and in life in general, often requires us to take on tasks that are "dreadful". ultimately, you'll have to decide how worth it it is..

well, the intent was far more "kick oneself into gear" rather than "be inspired", but whatever works.. :)

I found an easier way to study idioms, and seems to be as effective. I found that writing the idioms on flashcards has helped me retain the idioms. I don't know if it will help others, but I found that it has helped me to actually remember the information, opposed to reading material in a linear book-format.

Please remember that forums are to encourage and to build confidence in others by providing ideas, not opinions to study habits. If you have the knowledge as to what works for you, you should share it, instead of being selfish, and self-centered with you're learned "knowledge" and proper "instructor" title, woo-hoo, you scored a 700, so what, can you lead others to do the same. Helping others is a virtue, and so is teaching.

By the way, it is dreadful, no matter what you guys think, i'm sure everyone that has had to take this hideous exam will have similar thoughts.

Cheers,

CC.

yes it's dreadful, but i appreciate your attitude - help each other out! BTW i am a big fan of flash cards for studying idioms. put a correct version on one side and an incorrect version on the other side, and run through the cards both directions (front to back and back to front)..
