Hi,

Below sentence appears in the Manhattan SC guide

If he is not given ample recovery time after the operation, he is liable to be disoriented and unable to perform routine tasks

Why is it not following the, If + Present tense -- > Then X will structure?

Is the below sentence correct?

If he is not given ample recovery time after the operation, he will be disoriented and unable to perform routine tasks.

Your second sentence is also correct - there are multiple ways to write a sentence correctly. When you say someone "is liable to be" something - you're saying that the person likely will be that something. It's just a different way to convey the same idea.

For instance, if I don't eat dinner tonight, I will be really hungry when I go to bed. If I don't eat dinner tonight, I am liable to be really hungry when I go to bed. The meaning is the same.
