Impact of IR on Admissions

by Miss B Fri Oct 11, 2013 11:56 am

Hi all,

I took my first attempt at GMAT today and ended up with an
Overall score 740; Q- 47 (70 percentile) V-46 (99 percentile) and IR 4 (37 percentile).

Could the low IR score affect my admission chances? I intend to apply in 2014/2015 . I'm looking at INSEAD and Tier-1 UK colleges.

Thanks.

Congrats on your overall score! I wouldn't stress about a 4 on the IR at this point; schools are still adapting to the IR score and learning how best to use and interpret it. Generally a 4+ is "ok", though 5-6 preferred, and it's still not the main focus of assessing your GMAT. The percentiles are low because it's a small scale (0-8) so going up one point for example is a huge change in percentile.

Starting next year the IR may start to be more involved in decisions, but I still think you are ok.
