In "The king, helped by his wife, who X", who points to what

The king, helped by his wife, who was as successful as anybody, ruled his kingdom justly

In the above construct, who was successful?

The king or the wife..

is there a source for this problem or is this just an abstract question? i'd go with "wife" if i had to make a choice in this case, but it's always a better idea to deal with actual GMAT problems rather than made up problems, because some made up problems present scenarios that the GMAT won't actually test on..
