Kelley mba vs McDonough mba

by boxer317 Wed Jan 01, 2014 3:51 pm

Hi Manhattan team,

I am in Indian IT engineer and I intend to do an MBA in US. I have been admitted to full-time MBA program at Kelley School of Business and at Mcdonough School of Business - Georgetown.
I have received generous scholarships from both.

Now, I am confused as to which school should I join. I intend to work in the field of IT consultancy after MBA. I have talked to alumni of both the schools and I still cannot decide on one. Can you give me some pros and cons of these colleges.
Also what factors should I consider before making a final call.

Any information in this regard will be very helpful.
Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

Congratulations on your acceptance to both programs! Certainly lots to think about, and good that you are speaking with alumni of each program etc.

Overall it is a very personal choice, which school to go to... but in terms of looking for a few differences..... McDonough has a larger class size, something to consider (pros: more people to network with, slightly larger alumni base; cons: slightly less personal attention opportunities with professors, may know entire class slightly less). Kelley is more known for consulting, while McDonough is best known for financial services (but does not mean you couldn't get a great job in consulting after either.

I suggest looking closely at the employment statistics/hiring profiles for each program.

Also consider the actual setting of each-- Bloomington will be a smaller down setting, and Georgetown is basically DC so more metropolitan. That might ultimately be the biggest difference, along with hiring profiles.

Good luck, keep us posted!

Hi Jennifer,

Thank you so much for the information.
I have decided to join McDonough School of Business.
I considered a lot of things and as you said choosing between Bloomington and DC was right up there.

But I am glad that I am out of this limbo.

Thank you again.

Hey,

Congrats! Glad to hear you've made a decision, are happy with it, and are feeling good to be out of 'limbo' so to speak! Should be an amazing experience. And DC is a great place to be! Wishing you all the best for the future! Thanks for the update. ;)
