Linking verb example sc guide

Can you please explain the below example from Manhattan's sc guide.

Wrong: The bouquet of flowers WAS a giving of love.

Right: The bouquet of flowers WAS a gift of love.

What exactly are you asking of us? One of these is right, and the other is wrong. If you understand WHY, great! If not, just memorize which one is right and which is wrong.

I too din't get this :(
Right is correct to me.. because I have heard this before.. but have never heard Wrong Statement..
