Live Exam corelation

by gopa Sat Aug 30, 2008 1:09 pm

Hi

I am getting consistant scores of 36 in english even though i have more than 15 wrong questions in a test.
Can i still corelate the scores i get to the Live Gmat Exam?
Is the score realistic?
I gather that my scores on getting more than 15 wrong questions in Verbal on the GMAT MBA.COM CD, never used to exceed 32!
Please help! I have finished my 6 paid exams.

Hi Gopa,

MGMAT practice test does not have experimental questions whereas GPREP from MBA.com has experimental questions.
Answering an experimental question does not score.

So your method of calculating score based on number of incorrect answers is incorrect.

There are many factors based on which you get your score.
Getting consecutive questions wrong may take your score down, not completing all the 41 questions is heavily penalized,
getting easy question wrong is also bad.

Because of these variable factors we cannot make conclusions.

GMAT focus gives the best approximation of you scaled score for MATHS.
GPREP is the best approximation for verbal score followed by MGMAT.

You may give your GREP and MGMAT again, many new questions will appear..
Also you may try other cats like 800score ...

About scores being realistic, I would say that for GPREP the standard deviation is 30 and for MGMAT it is 40
means if you are getting 640 , you can range from 610 - 670. It is safe to assume the lower end and prepare.
