LSAT CR - If A, then B

by thoppae.saravanan Tue Mar 30, 2010 11:58 am

The following is a LSAT CR.

If A, then B.
If B, then C.
If C, then D.
If all of the statements above are true, which of the following must also be true?
(A) If D, then A.
(B) If not B, then not C.
(C) If not D, then not A.
(D) If D, then E.
(E) If not A, then not D.

Guess this is a syllogism question. Any easy way to solve this?

OA is C

If A, then B.
If B, then C.
If C, then D.

result into
If A, then D
or
If not D, then not A, by rule

Ans C

Going by the same argument then option B should also be right. Isn't it?

Moreover the statements does not say that D can be approached only via A-->B-->C

Please take care about the rules
If X, the Y => If not Y then not X; no other inference is true
If not X, the Y => If not Y then X; no other inference is true
If X, then not Y => If Y then not X; no other inference is true

If B, then C
It can infer only
If not C, then not B
No other inference is true

Thank you very much for the rules. Now i understood why option C is right.
