Hi guys this is my very first post, so please pardon me for any errors:-)

The problem faced by most of us in this question must be between options A, D and E - "which" has been used in two options (both are incorrect) while the correct option actually turns out to be E...

Here's the hitch - Please note that which should always be preceded by a noun and not a clause or phrase (as in the option numbers A and D)... Options B and D use pronouns "it" and "they" without a clear reference to whom these pronouns are referring to...Option E clearly takes "a task --> that is", eliminating any ambiguity....as isodhi has already explained very nicely...
