Hi there,
It's great that you are planning ahead for your future b-school application and career. As you know, GMAT scores are valid for 5 years so you can get your test scores under your belt now in advance of future applications, which would mean one less thing to worry about when that time comes.
You ask good questions and you're right, it's an interesting situation with the exact same score but very different math/verbal skews. ;) A 680 is respectable and is within 30 points or so of most top schools' average scores...but that said, breaking 700 can help, and since you have the time, I might take it one more time if I were you, because you may be able to get closer to the higher side on both quant and verbal and really do great on the overall. You've shown that you CAN do well on both components of the test.
In terms of whether you try again soon, or give it some time... that is pretty personal. If you feel you are pretty ready-to-go and up to speed on your GMAT prep, and can invest a little more time and take some additional full length computer adaptive practice exams between now and then, you may want to try once more in the next month or couple of months. However if you are feeling burnt out on GMAT prep or at all discouraged or not interested in re-taking anytime soon, that often leads to lower scores on test day when you're not mentally ready for it, so if that were the case you may want to take some time off and then try again a little further in the future.
Keep us posted with questions and concerns though. Other than the GMAT, in the coming years you'll want to look at how you can gain leadership and teamwork experiences, as well as people and project management skills, that will all help you in b-school (and on your applications), and think about your longer term career plan. Any activities or interests you have outside of the workplace can also strengthen your application, particularly if you have something you are passionate about and/or a way to give back to the community.
Good luck to you!
